The period from month 6 to month 9 of a baby's life is one of the most sensitive stages for the mother's emotional health and the mother–baby bond. As the baby begins to express emotions more clearly, the mother also goes through important emotional changes that often go unnoticed. If you are a mother and have sometimes thought: "Why do I still feel tired?" or "Is it normal to need a little time for myself?", the answer is yes. These emotions are a natural part of your journey.

The mother's emotions from month 6 to month 9

Many mothers tell me in therapy that after the sixth month they feel caught between two roles: they want to be close to their baby all the time, but at the same time they feel the need to reclaim a part of themselves. Fatigue, lack of energy and guilt may appear. Some mothers feel guilty if they go out for a walk without the baby or ask family members for help. But taking care of yourself doesn't make you any less of a mother. A mother who rests, sleeps and looks after her emotional well-being is better able to be present for her child. Remember: you don't need to be perfect. You only need to be present enough.

The emotional bond between mother and baby

From the sixth to the ninth month, the emotional bond between mother and baby becomes even stronger. The baby starts seeking your presence more and may get upset when you leave the room. Many parents are surprised to see their baby cry more often when they are away. In fact, this is a lovely sign: the baby is learning that you are their person of security. When you pick them up, hug them or speak to them calmly, you are giving them the most important message: "You are safe with me."

When the mother's emotions are reflected in the baby

A baby doesn't need words to understand your emotions. They feel the tone of your voice, the tension in your body and the way you hold them. If you are tired or overwhelmed, don't judge yourself. Every mother has difficult days. You don't need to be happy 24 hours a day. There will be moments when you feel exhausted and think you aren't doing enough. In exactly those moments, remind yourself: your baby doesn't need perfection, but emotional connection.

Mothers' common fears

During this period, many mothers begin to worry more. Are they growing up happy? Am I doing enough? Will I always be able to protect them? These questions are common and show how much you love your child. However, it's important not to keep them all inside. Talk to your partner, a friend or a psychologist if you feel overwhelmed.

A message for every mother

At the end of the day, your baby won't remember the toys they had or whether the house was always tidy. They will remember the feeling of warmth, the hugs and the love they received. And as you watch your baby grow every day, don't forget something very important: you are growing too. Because from month 6 to month 9 of a baby's life, it isn't only the baby who develops. Slowly and with a great deal of love, a new version of the mother is born.
